Die Fakulteit Lettere en Sosiale Wetenskappe is ’n kreatiewe en interaktiewe leeromgewing waar studente die vaardighede verwerf wat dit verg om krities en konstruktief met ons samelewing om te gaan. Met 14 voorgraadse graadprogramme en ’n reeks nagraadse graadprogramme waaruit hulle kan kies, bied ons aan studente die geleentheid om tot intellektueel ondersoekende, onafhanklike en ingeligte denkers te ontwikkel, asook tot betrokke landsburgers.

Ons navorsing, onderrig en leer sowel as ons sosiale-impakprojekte gaan alles daaroor om die uitdagings van menswees in ’n onderling verbonde en komplekse wêreld te verstaan.

Ons stel belang in mense se idees, gedrag en kreatiwiteit. Ons bestudeer hoe mense dink, redeneer en kommunikeer; hoe ons as families in samelewings saambestaan; hoe ons die ruimtes rondom ons inrig, inligting hanteer, en onsself deur taal, letterkunde en die skeppende kunste uitdruk. Ons ondersoek ook die menslike geskiedenis en dink oor hoe die toekoms dalk lyk én hoe dit behoort te lyk.

Ons onderrig en navorsing word internasionaal erken, maar is terselfdertyd relevant vir ons streek, land en vasteland.

Ons graadprogramme

Ons bied 14 voorgraadse programme en ’n wye verskeidenheid honneurs-, magister- en doktorale programme aan. Nagraadse studente ontvang studieleiding van hoog aangeskrewe navorsers, sowel as bystand van ons Nagraadse Skool om hulle grade suksesvol te voltooi.

Ons navorsing

Ons is die trotse tuiste van een DWI-NNS Sentrum van Uitnemendheid, vier NNS-SARChI-leerstoele wat deur die nasionale Departement van Wetenskap en Innovasie (DWI) gefinansier word, en 79 navorsers met ’n gradering van die Nasionale Navorsingstigting (NNS). Hierdie navorsers word deur hulle eweknieë erken vir hulle beduidende en sinvolle navorsingsbydraes.

Ons sosiale impak

Deur ons sosiale-impakwerk lewer die Fakulteit ’n aansienlike bydrae tot die Universiteit Stellenbosch se visie om Afrika se voorste navorsingsintensiewe universiteit te wees wat inklusiewe en innoverende navorsing tot diens van die samelewing onderneem.

Waarom ’n BA-graad?

Ons sosiale en politieke wêreld, ons omgewing en die werkswêreld is vinnig aan die verander. Om die onsekerhede en onduidelikhede van die hede en toekoms te kan hanteer, het ons kenniswerkers nodig wat komplekse kwessies kan snap en oplos, data kan vertolk en ontleed, oplossings kan bedink en skep, en ons nuwe maniere van leef kan verstaan. ’n BA-graad berei jou nie vir ’n enkele loopbaan voor nie; dit rus jou toe met die grondliggende kennis en analitiese denkvaardighede waarna ’n wye verskeidenheid werkplekke dringend op soek is en wat buigsame loopbane moontlik maak. Verwag ’n afgeronde opvoeding wat jou as mens sal help leer, groei en gedy.

Nagraadse Skool

Die Nagraadse Skool is ’n inisiatief van die Fakulteit Lettere en Sosiale Wetenskappe. Die Skool fasiliteer en administreer die toekenning van internasionale nagraadse Meesters- en Doktorale beurse oor al die departemente binne die Fakulteit heen.

Die Skool poog om ’n ondersteunende ruimte te skep wat dinamies en kollegiaal is, en wat vir studente die geleentheid bied om betrokke te raak by navorsing wat die uitdagings van ons era aanspreek.

Wêreldwye vennootskappe

Die Fakulteit Lettere en Sosiale Wetenskappe het navorsingsnetwerke en strategiese vennootskappe met universiteite deur die hele Afrika en die res van die wêreld. Ons vennootskapsooreenkomste bied geleenthede vir studente- en personeeluitruilprogramme, gesamentlike grade, werksessies en somerskole, kortkursusse en ander samewerkingsprojekte.
