The Gaza Strip, besieged by decades of conflict and deprivation, presents one of the most challenging environments for mental health professionals. This talk will delve into the profound psychological impacts of enduring and surviving trauma in Gaza, where nearly every resident has been exposed to some form of violence, loss, or chronic stress. Dr. Marwan Diab will explore the unique mental health crisis emerging from this context, characterized by widespread PTSD, depression, anxiety disorders, and the intergenerational transmission of trauma. The presentation aims to engage psychology faculty in a discussion about the complexities of trauma in a protracted crisis, the role of mental health interventions in conflict zones, and the ethical responsibilities of psychologists in such contexts.
