Bachelor of Data Science (Geoinformatics)
Bachelor of Data Science (Geoinformatics)
The Bachelor of Data Science (BDatSci) is an interfaculty programme with up to eight different focal areas. Geoinformatics is one of the focal areas housed within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
Geoinformatics is the science and technology of dealing with the structure and character of spatial information, its capture, its classification and qualification, its storage, processing, portrayal and dissemination. You will learn to apply data science concepts to geospatial data. Using geocomputation, geo-tools are developed to work with geographic data in a computational way, focusing on code, reproducibility, and modularity. Geovisualization helps communicate complex ideas because it uses the powerful medium of the map, integrated with other electronic multimedia.
Some possible career opportunities include GIS analyst, remote sensing specialist, geospatial software developer, geospatial database manager, geospatial project manager, geospatial data scientist, environmental scientist, and geospatial researcher.
